Session O356 - MVSE: TSO/E V2 Technical Topics

SHARE 73
August 21-25, 1989

I stayed in this session only as long as I could stand it. Much of it was marketing crud. I don't have TSO/E. I don't have RACF. I could care less about the syntax required for the command that offloads SYS1.UADS into RACF.

There is a new TESTAUTH command, which is similar to TEST, but it supports the testing of programs that run "authorized". It is a restricted command, and access to it is controlled via a specialized RACF call. The newer versions of TEST and TESTAUTH support ESA artifacts - the new addressing registers, data spaces, opcodes and so forth. The LIST subcommand now has an "XC" operand. It lists data in "dump format".

SYS1.BRODCAST has historically been a performance bottleneck in large TSO installations. Nowadays TSO supports individual userlogs instead of a single common SYS1.BRODCAST. You control it via the IKJTSOxx member on SYS1.PARMLIB.

TSO/E 1.4 and beyond allows you to get rid of SYS1.UADS and offload your user base completely into the RACF database. (Let me uncharitably point out that ACF2 has been doing this for a fair number of years now.)
