Cecelia Cowles, president of SHARE, welcomed the 5600 attendees and introduced the speaker: Gentry Lee, a muckymuck at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and co-author of a book with Arthur C. Clarke (don't read Cradle, it is a complete waste of time).
He acknowledged that many of the SHARE audience had a scientific background, or at least some appreciation for the principal buzzwords. He lowered his voice and spoke conspiratorially: Congress is a bunch of bozos (this is news?). He spent an hour justifying the space program, relating the quest for knowledge with Life, the Universe and Everything. He is a good speaker, he tells some good stories, and his audience was largely sympathetic, so a good time was had by all.
Don't know how this relates to SHARE business though.
