I was really looking forward to this session. IBM doesn't like to even acknowledge the existence of EP anymore, and documentation is becoming scarce. We have a couple of oddball devices attached to our mainframe that require BTAM and EP - the Heath clock and the Rolm phone system - and I've been getting tired of supporting it via the ole Vulcan Mind Probe.
Fred Baker (Illinois Bell) planned on having five or six people show up at this session. Three dozen people - probably more turned away - showed up in a room that seated two dozen. He was shocked! IBM should take notice of this; there is pent-up demand for something they don't provide anymore.
There was a review of BSC line protocols, EP commands, and some discussion of JES2 RTAM. Oh yes, we dug through a GTFCCW line trace. Lots of fun.
