Session O232 - FDR User Experience and System Overview

SHARE 71
August 15-19, 1988

Steve Ryder from the Texas Education Agency came to tell you more than you ever wanted to know about FDR, ABR, COMPACTOR, and FDREPORT. He has apparently been a faithful Innovation customer since the early days, and he likes his product. I went to his session because I am not really very familiar with FDR and thought an overview would be useful.

I was surprised to find all the stuff it does. We don't exploit half of its capabilities where I work, but neither do we require them.

TEA is beta-testing the latest and greatest release of FDR and had good news for us all. With compression turned on, dump performance has improved 17% in CPU time, and 7% wall clock time. Restore performance is more dramatic - FDR 5.0C level 6 is enjoying a 60% reduction in CPU time and a 64% reduction in wall clock time.
