Session O109 - MVS Free-For-All

SHARE 71
August 15-19, 1988

This was about the last session that anybody was able to get to, and the room was packed. This is the ballroom with an open microphone where audience members can query other audience members about any topic having loosely to do with MVS.

One woman got up and asked if it was true that Computer Associates was giving away $10,000 to the person who can decrypt an ACF2-encrypted password. Amidst the laughter, the moderator unkindly suggested that she take her SCIDS question to SCIDS.

I asked if IFG0196F still has an embedded RACHECK in the ESA implementation. Nobody knew at the time, but I got a call back from an IBMer in Santa Teresa today. Ed Daray's answer was that he wasn't 100% sure, but that if there is then it is APARable. This determines how easily ADS tape protection can be made to run under the newfangled operating systems.
